Baby's Growth and Development in Week 28 (Seventh Month)

Learn about the growth milestones that babies are expected to achieve on completion of the 7th month or 28 weeks of their development.

Now that you are the mom to an amazing 28 weeks old baby, you deserve some credit for having made it this far. This time last year, you were in your second trimester of pregnancy, did you ever think about what you would be like as a mom? Well it would be suffice to say that you're doing pretty well. Your baby is growing and developing at the rate that she should and most importantly, she is happy, isn't she? After all, there is nothing more precious to a parent than seeing his or her child smile.

Making a Public Appearance with Your Baby

In the last few months, haven't you felt like you were on house arrest? You certainly couldn't go out if you didn't get a good babysitter you could trust. And taking the baby out with you was out of the question for a wide range of reasons. But now that your baby is growing up, you should take her out, say to a restaurant.
There are some things you need to carry with you. Obviously you're not going to feed her the food you'll eat. It'll be better to carry some mashed up solids along with you. Oh, and don't forget her favourite sippy cup!

Behavioural Changes

You should start noticing the hints of a distinct personality in your baby during this time. And now that your baby is in the seventh month of her development, you should be able to notice distinct behavioural patterns. You'll notice how she behaves differently with different people. She might be perfectly jovial and happy with you. She might be the sweetest baby ever with your babysitter or her grandparent. But you might see a sudden change in behaviour in front of someone else. There could be different reasons for that. She probably doesn't feel as comfortable with them as she does with you or the people she sees regularly.

Milestones This Week

Your baby should have started to crawl properly by this time. By now, she could have started to cruise. In case you're not aware of what cruising is, this is for you. Have you seen your baby trying to stand up by holding on to pieces of furniture? She'll now try to walk around by taking support from pieces of furniture. Hold your breath; this is how she'll start to walk some day.

Baby Led Weaning

This may be a new concept to you. You might have noticed that your baby tries to grab or pull the spoon as you feed her. That probably means she is eager to eat the food all by herself. You could encourage this by placing chunks of food items like fruit or biscuits in front of her. She will pick them up and put it straight into her mouth. This has been termed as baby led weaning. If your baby has an older brother or sister and you believe in the concept of "the whole family that eats together, stays together", then chances are your baby would try to copy you and her older siblings. That could be a reason for baby led weaning.

Going Back to Work

Well, most mothers usually do not get more than six to seven months when it comes to maternity leave. Yes, it will shatter your heart to pieces to leave your baby at home. But what can you do anyway? This is going to be quite a difficult time for you. But don't worry, things will go back to the way they were and with support and will power, you'll be able to balance both aspects.
Parenthood, in general, is all about compromises and sacrifices. You have to accept the fact there is a new little human being in your life, and you need to plan ever single little detail around her.

What kind of growth milestones do babies achieve by 7th month of their development? Which toys can help to boost the development of 7 months old babies? Discuss here.
